Hi-Chew, in all its wisdom, is the only candy in the known universe that has nailed the flavor of grape and not just the flavor of purple. They are exceptional.
I think the danger in listening only to the people of color who say racism isn't that bad, or they've never experienced it, is it is discounting the many many others who have a different narrative. Good for you if your skin is brown and you've never been treated badly because of it; I'm going to listen to and believe those (like my daughter-in-law) who have.
Shannan, you put your finger on exactly why I can’t seem to find the kind of joy I used to have. Because I know things now. Like you, there was a time when I was content. I’m not anymore. That’s not bad. It’s very good. I shouldn’t be content when so many of my fellow humans are suffering the way they are. The willful ignorance of people calling themselves Christians is very frustrating. As you said, if I’m frustrated, how the People of Color must feel. Thank you for continuing to write on these subjects.
At nearly the end of a stressful day, it's balm to my soul to read your words (challenging as they are). I may even bake those banana muffins. Have a blessed day and week-end my friend with your family (close and the wider circle one ;-)
