Welcome to The Soup!
I’m Shannan Martin, a neighbor and best-selling author in Goshen, Indiana. I’m a voracious reader, a wannabe-gardener, a news-geek, a thrift store-stalker, a justice-fighter, and an aficionado of not-too-spicy salsa. I’ve published three books: Start with Hello, The Ministry of Ordinary Places, and Falling Free. I’m also a cook at a local non-profit dedicated to feeding our community. I fall asleep most nights thinking about breakfast.
The Soup is a weekly dispatch committed to helping us live meaningful, beautiful lives, even as we bear witness to the complexities and injustices around us. Abundance means we get it all.
The Soup is for you if:
You want to stay whole and healthy through life’s endless challenges.
You’re desperate for agency in a life where much is beyond our control.
You want to stay engaged and empathetic in a complicated, often-painful world.
You embrace complexity and believe in the power of community.
You want to love your life even when things aren’t perfect.
How does this work?
Once a month, I send out a free issue of The Soup newsletter. If you want seconds (and thirds!) you can subscribe for $5/month (or discounted at $50/year.) Paid subscribers hear from me most weeks and gain access to our secret Instagram account. Thank you for supporting my work as a writer. I’m so glad you’re here.
Choose the free or paid option. Either way, you have to sign up!
Just as the title The Soup implies, there’s room for a little bit of everything here. I’m a devoted believer in finding the counterweights to the pain-points of life. They’re necessary if we want to carry it all and endure in hope. Around here, we believe in nuance and know we’re allowed to change our minds. We’re serious and silly. Mundane and magical. I write about politics and Jesus, and why the two are connected. I'm a story-teller by nature, so I’ll keep writing down what I learn from my neighbors. I’m a foodie and book-geek at heart, so I’ll keep serving up my favorites.
I’m so glad you’re here! Onward!
Love,
Shannan
PS - If you’d like to be a paid subscriber but the fee is a struggle (been there!) please let me know and I’ll add you to the list, no questions asked.
