Counterweights in Flight

What kept me whole over 6 days on the road

I sent this line to two friends this morning, “I’m starting to feel more like a person.” The truth is, I was just as persony when I was slipping between states and time zones on the first leg of the Counterweights book tour. Spending six full days simultaneously energized and exhausted, six days in a row where I did my hair (hate it) and hugged people (love it) and tried not to think about sales or rankings or my future as an author (failed it.) It’s enough to rattle a nervous system, but I was no less human than I am right now, sitting on my couch by an open window at 11am with extremely undone hair.

Someone asked me, “Are you tired of talking about c/Counterweights?” (The practice and the book.) Not at all. I enjoy watching words settle a spirit. I feel my own spirit rise at the moment it locks in. I believe in my bones that we will use this word - together - for the rest of our lives. That’s the goal behind the book, the legacy that will outlast the pages. This practice isn’t complicated, but it’s complex. We carry it all.

Here’s a list of things that kept me steady and sane while I was away.
