Surprise! A Saturday note, because Fat Tomatoes are always happening, and yesterday’s looked like scrapping my plan to spend the afternoon writing at the library for a 6-hour back-to-school shopping trip with Ruby and my niece, Macy.
First stop: Plato’s Closet, where we spent *lots* of time and I ruined their lives by insisting they try everything on. I implore you to begin your teen shopping here! It’s all secondhand, all name brand/on trend, and…jeans are $8 rather than $80.
I’m working on a post that will (hopefully) go up next week, though we are committed to squeezing all the juice from this summer, so only time will tell. At any rate, I’m working on a meaty follow-up to last week’s post about my political headspace leading up to another presidential election. In case you missed it:
I want what I publish next on this topic to be thoughtful and helpful, so I’m giving it the time and intention it deserves. (Thank you for supporting my work by being a paid subscriber!) If you have specific questions on the topic of politics or my journey, drop them in the comments!
In the midst of ruminating on what it means to change and to change our minds, I ran across one of those questionnaires we used to fill out on Facebook on our Blogspots back in the day. I filled this one out sixteen years ago. Whew! Things change and stay the same. (Scroll to the bottom to read my very first Flower Patch Farmgirl blog post, written soon after this survey.)
I now present to you 32 year old Shannan and 48 year old Shannan. Enjoy!
ABCs of Shannan
{If the answer changed, I crossed it out and wrote the new answer. If there’s only one answer, I stand by it! And might add some commentary.}
A - Age: 32 48
B - Bed size: Queen
C - Chore you hate: Anything involving toilets or wet, stray hair (I can’t argue with this.)
D - Dog’s name: I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that I will never own a dog.
E - Essentials to start your day: Cereal Black tea, hot. Toast or yogurt. (I used to eat cereal every day and most nights before bed. It has been many years since I’ve had cereal for breakfast. My “more mature” system does not rock with milk. I don’t miss it.)
F - Favorite color: A very specific shade of blue, ideally with some of it flaking off. Green!
G - Gold or silver: Silver Gold, 100% (As a case study in change, my engagement and wedding rings were gold. Years later, we had them reset in silver. My wedding band remains silver and I kinda wish it was gold again. However, my new watch - a birthday gift from Cory, is silver and I love it! Life is complicated.)
H - Height: 5’10”
